I woke up one morning, as soon as I got out of bed I went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water. After pouring myself a glass and finally completely opening my eyes, I began to actually wake up. As I stumbled around the kitchen I remember a video I watched. It was a video about taking a shot of apple cider vinegar in the morning. I couldn’t remember exactly why, I just remembered it was from someone I know, trusted and have been following for quite some time now. That and a few of my friends have been mentioning they were doing it too.
I thought what the heck, why not! I’ll thought I'll just look up why later. I went over to the cabinet, fumbled around and finally found the Braggs bottle of Apple Cider Vinegar. I went over to the drawer and found the measuring spoon. I poured it into the tablespoon and just then I took a whiff of the strong overbearing scent of fermented apple & vinegar. It was repelling, but I kept thinking it’s just a shot. No big deal everyone else is doing it. I looked at the spoon for a good 30 seconds mentally preparing myself. I took a couple of deep breaths and said bottoms up!
The first few seconds wasn’t terrible. After time passed though my stomach got worse and I kept feeling this nauseous feeling in my stomach. I was standing over the sink thinking to myself “How do people do this?” I quickly grabbed a glass of water and started drinking to get the taste out of my mouth. For a good 10 minutes or so, I was fighting my stomach and the feeling that I was going to throw up at any moment. After that point I didn’t want to take another shot of it again.
I began to think how do people drink this? How do they put up with that every morning? I looked online… Oh… you’re supposed to mix it with water and/or other ingredients.
From there I wanted to figure out a few things. One, why is it worth taking and dealing with the struggle of this shot? Two, how do you drink it without causing stomach issues?
2. It help rids the body of candida.
A yeast which can causes symptoms of fatigue, bad memory, cravings and yeast infections.
3. Helps with acid reflux and heartburn.
Since it regulates pH levels and acid reflux is usually due to that, bacteria & lack of enzymes. ACV can help with that acid reflux and heartburn.
4. Aids in fat loss.
Since it helps with sugar cravings and detoxifying the body, it helps boost the metabolism and can help curb cravings & hunger. This will help blood sugar which means it can be helpful to those with diabetes. That's why some people will drink it in the morning to help curb hunger which will help them eat less or push back when they eat. (It is a good alternative or additive to intermittent fasting)
5. It is an antioxidant due to the polyphenols.
This means it can help with neurodegenerative diseases such as alzheimers and osteoporosis. It can also help with cancer too.
6. It can help with heart health by reducing the risk of heart disease.
It helps maintain healthy cholesterol & triglycerides. Cardiovascular disease is the leading causes of deaths around the world. That's why cholesterol & triglyceride levels have become such a big topic of discussion over the past 2 decades.
7. It has other body benefits such as healthy skin.
Due to the antioxidant and detoxification properties, it can help with acne and promote healthy skin.
Apple cider vinegar isn't something new, it's been used all around the world for 1000’s of years.
How much is too much? It’s said, not consume around 2 tbsp at a time, 1-3 times a day.
The 2 ways I drink ACV
There are many ways to take ACV, I tend to stick to 2 different options, as a morning detox or at night to help sleep (golden nugget from Tim Ferriss in his new book Tools of Titans)
Night Time Drink
This I stole from Tim Ferriss’ new book Tools of Titans, who stole it from Seth Roberts. This surprisingly works really well in knocking you out if you have insomnia or trouble falling asleep. I tried it and after a few minutes I felt the effects begin to kick in. It helped calm me down and slow me down. Eventually I fell asleep much easier and quicker than normal. Not only me, but my friend tried it as well, and it knocked him out. Before drinking it, I didn’t always dream, when I do it's usually sporadic probably determined by the quality of sleep I'm getting. When I took it I noticed I dreamed more often and more vividly. I even lucid dreamed for the first time in years. (I’m not promoting this as a reason to take it, just a personal observation that has been noted to happen by me, and Seth Roberts too.)
If you have trouble falling asleep at night this may be helpful:
Can you benefit by taking Apple Cider Vinegar? At morning or night?
Take note it’s not a magical pill, nothing is. It’s not a one stop fix for any of the above problems. It just helps. If you like to optimize your day, body & health like I do, you may find it a helpful additive to your day.
